The Technological Alienation of Knowledge in the Knowledge Economy by Trevor Nesbit
Cii, 200 Armagh Street
With all of this technology
available to us now, surely this means that we can connect with more
people and share important information and knowledge with them? A
recent US study found the technology has resulted in people have more
connection, but that the quality of the personal connections have gone
down (Matheson, 2008).
A number of continuums are explored with a view to making sense of
what is going on in a world where technology has enabled to quantity of
communication to increase, at the expense of the quality of the
communication. Some of the continuums include:
• Explicit Knowledge to Tacit Knowledge
• Knowledge of Persons as Objects to Knowledge of Persons as Subjects
• Un-networked Society to the Networked Society
• Face to Face Learning to Online Learning
