"In 2003, the knowledge management group I worked in was merged with the learning team. As with all mergers, the first meeting was, er, interesting. Each group across from the other. Someone from the other side of the table spoke up: 'You do something with databases, don't you?' They didn't know what we did. We didn't know what they did. It proved to be fun, and sometimes painful, finding out."
Nelly Todorova from the University of Canterbury recently attended the European Conference on Knowledge Management.
At an NZKM session in Christchurch on 27 October 2009, Nelly presented some of the key themes from the conference, including:
Michael Sampson, global expert in SharePoint governance, business engagement and end user adoption, has been kind enough to make the first chapter of his recently published 2nd book available to NZKM members for free.
His book provides valuable insights into the people and process side of implementing and management SharePoint. The first chapter provides and overview of the content and insights in the book. It's a must read for anyone involved in SharePoint implementations.
This is a research study done by David Coleman of Collaborative Strategies, on 4 different populations as well as 12 interviews of large organizations that have implemented social networks. David has kindly made this available to NZKM members. For more information about David and his work, go to www.collaborate.com.

Key Strategies for Successful Online Communities
How to create, develop and evolve a social media presence to increase collaboration, drive awareness and improve customer loyalty
It was at an NZKM lunchtime catch-up here in Wellington that someone made a great observation - "Let's not dive into having formal agenda but start by getting to know each other" (I paraphrase).
And that person was totally onto it - without us actually knowing each other it's pretty tough to share ideas, have trust and get along. And so, this is me (source: my company site):
Hey fellow NZKM'ers,
We (you ever obedient committee) have created a LinkedIn Group (called New Zealand Knowledge Network) as a means of connecting with knowledge workers, getting the NZKM name out there and using the on-line networking you are probably already doing.
If you are already a member of LinkedIn then simply join the group: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=157550
If you're not a member of LinkedIn and are wondering what it's all about - read on ...
