The Management Committee is a group of NZKM members who undertake hands-on planning. We meet monthly in Wellington. Please let us know if you are interested in joining this group and taking a role in managing NZKM. Julian has a consulting business called Seradigm. His background is in large scale information architecture and Intranet projects. He now consults to national organisations such as Landcare Research, Archives NZ and the Department of Conservation on information systems strategy, knowledge transfer, and sense making. His areas of interest include the way people use information, context and narrative to connect to each other, share meaning and make decisions. While he works across the country, Julian lives in Christchurch.
James is the Manager of the staff in our Minister's offices in the Beehive. He has Masters degrees in Public Policy and Information Management, both through Victoria. He has been a visiting Fellow at NSW University studying critical personnel levels for core functions, and has attended the Harvard Business School's Strategic HR Management course. He recently completed a 30 year career in the Army as a communications officer where he headed both the policy and delivery components of the Defence Force's communications and information systems as well as head of Army's HR. He has a passion for KM, believing that people are the key to success, for it is they who know things and it is they who make things possible.
Janita Stuart completed her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Library and Information Science degrees in the U.S.A. She completed the Master of Information Management degree at Victoria University. She will soon be completing the National Diploma in Business from UNITEC. She has wide ranging library experience including the IT side of librarianship. Her specialisation has been in information retrieval and value added information packaging customised to client needs. She has extended her expertise to include strategic planning/management and training/development of human resources. She recently completed a major research project on Internet voting for local government elections and has published a number of articles arising from that research.
Anita is a Research Fellow at Victoria University currently employed on a project investigating how public servants in New Zealand central government manage business-related email messages. She also has a part-time role implementing an electronic document & records management system within a New Zealand government agency. She completed the Master of Information Management and the Master of Library and Information Studies, both at Victoria University. Her specialisation is in information architecture, information management strategy and framework development, and development of business classification structures. Her particular knowledge management focus in on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and on the organisational implications of emerging communication and information management technologies.
Nelly is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems, School of Business and Economics, University of Canterbury. She teaches Knowledge Management at postgraduate and undergraduate level. Nelly finds all aspects of this interdisciplinary field fascinating. Her current research interests focus on knowledge reuse, reflective practices, organizational and technology design which encourages transformation of knowledge into action. Currently, Nelly is working on a project aiming to design practices for transfer and utilization of lessons learned within and across IS development project teams.
Paul has over twenty years’ experience in library and information management, working in the public, academic and corporate sectors. Currently Paul is information manager for Tonkin & Taylor, one of New Zealand's leading environmental and engineering consultancies, responsible for library and records management, along with knowledge management (km) strategy and implementation. He is interested in knowledge transfer, social networks and storytelling, but is also fascinated by successful km applications within the private sector. As well, Paul is a wine critic, wine industry consultant and educator and in 2006 became New Zealand’s latest Master of Wine (MW).
Alex is an experienced knowledge management professional and is currently working as a management consultant with Intergen. He has over 15 years experience in change implementation/planning, information management, knowledge management and online services. Continually inspired by practice and research, Alex is currently looking at how narrative-based methods can add value to change initiatives.
Nick Middelkoop is an Enterprise Architect with ANZ National Bank and currently primarily focused on integration activities. He has been in the IT industry since 1971 having had numerous technical, managerial and consultative roles during this period. The interest in Knowledge Management stems from a research project within the National Bank. These research projects were designed to investigate emerging technologies and determining how these apply to the Bank and the Bank's technology. Although Knowledge Management is not his current focus at work, Nick remains interested in the subject especially using Knowledge Management to enable and empower specialist teams.
Lindsay is the Team Leader Administration for Porirua City Council, a position he has held for the past 16 years. Prior to this he completed a 30 year career in the Army, dividing his time operationally, administratively and logistically, finishing up as the Deputy Director of Combat Services Support. He has a passion for Records and Archives, currently completing a Diploma in Records and Information Management to extend his level of expertise.
Crispin began his career with the New Zealand Army as a Field Psychologist completing his service as the Director of Army Psychology Services. He moved to the private sector in 1994, joining Telecom New Zealand where he served as Manager HR Development and Manager Capability. In 2001, Crispin began his consulting career providing services in human resources and organisational development. He has worked with the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines, Indonesia and Pakistan. Locally he has worked with a range of state sector and Crown Research organisations and small to medium enterprises. His KM interest centres on the organisational, cultural and behavioural factors that enable collaboration and information sharing. Crispin also has governance roles with the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ) and the New Zealand Psychological Society (NZPsS).
Ewan Pohe has a diverse academic background with qualifications in Law, Criminology and Horticulture. Ewan has held mangerial roles in a range of industries as well as various consulting roles. KM roles include the development and management of a large online networking community, and a KM teaching role at Victoria university. Ewan is currently completing his PhD. Ewan was previously Chairman of the New Zealand Knowledge Management Network from incorporation till late 2005.
Colin is Interactive Director at Base Two. He has twelve years experience in the design industry of which 8 years have been spent in web development. During this time he has had a wide exposure to different environments and business issues, having worked with many organisations across several different industries in many different countries. Colin puts a particular emphasis on creative graphical solutions. He takes a broad view that design on all levels of a project is necessary to develop and deliver a successful user interface which is both functional and friendly, while still being evocative and pleasing to the eye. Colin has an honors degree in graphic design from Staffordshire University and a masters degree in multimedia design from Central St. Martins in London.
David J. Pauleen is a Senior Lecturer and Director BCA(Hons)/MCA in IS, School of Information Management, Victoria University of Wellington. He teaches Knowledge Management and Cross-Cultural Information Management in the Masters of Information Management and Knowledge Management Executive Programmes. David is an Adviser for the Network. His current research issues interests include virtual teams and related issues, particularly information and communication technologies, cross-cultural communication and cultural biases in the development and use of communications technologies, team leadership and facilitation, and knowledge management of team processes and outcomes. His work has appeared in Journal of Information Technology and Internet Research Electronic Networking Applications and Policy.
Jocelyn Cranefield works as Project Leader, Web Portals at the New Zealand Ministry of Education. She is also completing a Master of Information Management degree with an e-business focus at Victoria University. In 2002 Jocelyn co-founded the NZKM Network with Shirley Chan. Jocelyn previously worked as Manager, Product Research and Development at Learning Media Limited. She has a background working in museums and television, including overseeing interpretative and multimedia elements for Te Papa's Day One exhibitions. In her free time, Jocelyn plays the cello with the Wellington Sinfonia and various chamber music groups.
Moira is Parliamentary Librarian, Parliamentary Library of New Zealand, and is acting as an Adviser for the Network. She was formerly National Director of Knowledge at Ernst Young. In that role she spoke to many groups about knowledge management.
Shirley Chan is a co-founder of the Network. She started her career as a lawyer specialising in Information Technology (IT), Communications and Commercial Laws before moving into IT systems development. She has published on IT and e-commerce management and policy in business journals and magazines such as E Commerce Times, Employment Relations Today, Web Review and Advanced Manufacturing. She is now working as a Knowledge Management Consultant to a British multinational in Hong Kong and a Senior Research Associate at the University of Hong Kong Business School.
Alistair has recently started his own knowledge management consultancy, Aethena Solutions. Prior to this he was a member of the Infinity Solutions Business Consulting team with a focus on organisational knowledge management (KM). He has worked with departments and agencies in the New Zealand public sector, as well as private sector knowledge-focused firms both in New Zealand, as well as overseas.
With a passion for the people and culture aspects of human side of KM, he's a strong personal interest and focus on people-centred knowledge strategies and approaches. Key personal areas of KM focus and interest are social networks, social complexity and organisational storytelling.
Alistair served on the NZKM Management Committee for a number of years, till June 2008, and continues to provide input and suggestions for speakers and events.
Diane is a director and the senior consultant for Zuri Consulting Limited, a company specialising in strategic human resources and knowledge management. She also part owns a web development company. She uses these disciplines working with organisations to improve their understanding and successful application of organisational learning to create new futures. With a background that spans finance, information technology and human resources and post graduate qualifications in education, accounting and banking, she enjoys taking a holistic approach to solving business problems.
Her particular interests in the knowledge management area are: peer to peer networking; “world café” approaches to knowledge enhancement; appreciative enquiry and championing the message that KM is so much more than a good records management system.
Diane served on the NZKM Management Committee from July 2006 to June 2008, and continues to run knowledge cafe events for NZKM in Wellington.
